 About Dr. Giroux

Monique Giroux, MD is a board-certified Neurologist, movement disorders specialist and clinical researcher that has spent decades caring for people of all ages living with chronic progressive neurologic conditions. Dr. Giroux completed her neurology residency at Yale, and fellowship training in movement disorders at Emory University. As a physician, she has dedicated over 20 years to the care of people living with chronic progressive neurologic disease as well as clinical research in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Giroux’s philosophy of care was shaped early in her care by her experience treating hospice patients and working in the field of rehabilitation medicine. Her unique blend of clinical experience and insights learned from patients peaked her long-term quest:

“What does it mean to be and live well and how do we shape our own ideas, actions and life narrative to achieve it?”

“Through observations with my patients, I understand that there is more to living well than physical health and lack of disease. It is not “either or” since you can be well even in the setting of disease and vice versa.  The idea of wellness in the setting of or even despite disease led to my pursuit of additional fellowship training in Integrative Medicine to better support my patients in mind, body and soul. The ultimate goal is to enhance wellness at any age and during all stages of disease. I bring this holistic approach to health and wellbeing to look beyond disease or physical limitations-to celebrate the person and redefine what it means to be well as we age.”

I started Age Celebrated to build a community not defined by- yet stronger because of age- and to foster a conversation on broadening your authentic self and living intentionally.

Age Celebrated is Unique!

I have experienced the value of online communities, experiencing first-hand the benefits of community for the patients I treated as a Neurologist. Participation in these communities offered the support they needed from others living with a similar medical condition. But the best communities went a step farther. They empowered and inspired their members to take the active steps needed to live and feel better in the moment. As I approached retirement, I looked for a similar experience…

What I found was very different. Few sites were developed by professionals experienced in unique issues that can accompany age. Even worse, was the focus on quick fixes, anti-aging and superpowers. The whole concept of anti-aging seemed counter-productive to my quest of living well. Aging is something that we all do, and the key is not to fight the inevitable but to redefine aging as an opportunity…

“Aging is an opportunity to bring the wisdom of our years, along with our individuality to reshape these ideas of what is the best life we can live today and going forth. Our best life focuses on living compassionately and in alignment with our values and preferences. The definition of living well, then, is as different as the number of people striving to achieve it.”

I started Age Celebrated to build a community not defined by- yet stronger because of age- and to foster a conversation on finding your authentic self and living intentionally.

But to do this also means that the information provided is true and based on science. My years as director of clinical research in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinsons’s disease gives me the experience needed to tackle the latest science or lifestyle advice and break it down in a way that is understandable, practical and relevant. Because everyone is different, I have included multiple formats for learning and community engagement by offering content laden bogs, inspiring podcasts and video courses or live events. Even with this, the effectiveness of this information, requires the power of community. We truly are stronger together!
